On Wednesday February 4th, 2009 the Chamber hosted a luncheon at the Pomeroy Hotel with guest speaker Tod Maffin.
Tod Maffin is widely recognized as a leading international authority on the strategic use of social media and how new and emerging technologies are affecting every part of business – from human resources to mental health.
Tod’s presentation to the Chamber of Commerce members was called the ‘myths of multi-tasking’ working ourselves to death. This presentation hit home to most of us in attendance. If we aren’t “multi-tasking” we know someone who is. In reality Tod let us know that there really is no such thing as multi-tasking; our brain can only concentrate on one thing at a time. However, working long hours and trying keep up can overload your brain and lead to irreversable damage at the cellular level. Tod went on to use examples from his private life refering to how burning a candle at both ends can lead to depression, divorce and alcoholism and how difficult it is to fight back from this kind of depression.
Can it hit you? … Most definitely!
Are you in denial? We all are if we didn’t learn something from today’s lesson!
