Payment and Card Industry Security

Have you ever had your credit card information stolen and used to make fraudulent purchases?
The Payment Card Industry – Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) applies to all merchants and service providers that accept credit card payments and is focused on the business and technical environments that support the processing, transmission and storage of cardholder data. In addition, an organization must also consider the compliance responsibilities related to any third-party service providers that handle cardholder data on the organization’s behalf.
During this session, we will discuss the PCI DSS and an organizations contractual responsibilities related to the acceptance of credit card payments. We will review current breaches, how they were accomplished and ways to protect your organization from becoming a victim. In addition, we will discuss the various organizations that support payment processing such as merchants, service providers, acquirers, credit card companies and how fines and penalties are assessed for noncompliance with the PCI DSS.
Lastly, we will discuss common requirements such as staff training, inspection of Point of Sale (POS) devices, incident response activities and PCI DSS reporting.
Facilitating Access to Global Talent

IRCC Outreach officers provide targeted information to help employers address skills shortages and labour market needs when there are not enough Canadian and Permanent Resident workers for jobs that are available.
During today’s session, participants will learn about IRCC permanent and temporary economic programs and supports, including International Mobility program work permits that are exempt from a Labour Market Assessment, and Global Skills Strategy which allows employers to hire highly skilled workers faster. There will also be information on how employers can support an employee’s application for permanent residence.
Following the presentation there will be an opportunity for questions and interaction with the IRCC officer.

Trust and Fraud

55% of Canadian companies know they are victims of fraud and many more are unaware. Most frauds are committed by individuals in a position of trust. Through specific examples of real fraud cases, you will learn how to recognize fraud and fraudsters. We will help you understand fraud by introducing what motivates a person to commit it, the different kinds of fraud that exist (including theft of time, money, and equipment / materials, collusion with vendors and falsifying financial reports), and how signs of fraud present themselves. Further, we will walk through effective fraud prevention measures you can consider for your business. Having a plan before fraud occurs and executing it quickly upon suspicions of fraud is paramount to a successful outcome. We will explain the key elements of a fraud response plan to help you understand what you need to do if you spot red flags of fraud.
