The Fort St. John & District Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce an additional speaker luncheon – May 6th – Key Note Speaker: Ken Chapman on behalf of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. Location – Quality Inn Northern Grand.
Ken Chapman will be giving a presentation on the difficulties communities endure when they are faced with a sudden boom from the energy industry. Mr. Chapman has extensive first-hand experience working in Fort McMurray during their early boom years and will attempt to ease the concerns residents have regarding the pressures their community faces, including, infrastructure, housing, health services and various other socio-economic issues.
Business and community leaders, as well as local residents who have been in discussions with CAPP about issues and concerns with oil and gas activity in the area are invited to attend.
Ken Chapman is the Executive Director of Northern Initiatives for the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation and the past Executive Director of the Oil Sands Developers Group. In both positions, Ken has worked with the oil sands industry on socioeconomic but in collaborations with a wide range of regionally based stakeholders on an integrated triple bottom line approach to progress.
The goal in his current role is to improve the well-being of the people, communities and enterprises in the Athabasca Oil Sands Region. These collaborations must be based on shared value and shared values while focusing on improving the capacity of the regional workforce and increasing participation of aboriginal peoples in realizing benefits of responsible sustainable oil sands development.
Infrastructure collaborations are with the Alberta government, municipalities, school boards, health services, post-secondary and other institutions in the Athabasca Oil Sands Region. The mutual goal is to deal with the full range of physical, social and environmental infrastructure needs in the AOSA to enhance the quality of life for the communities who face challenges inherent in the responsible and sustainable development of the oil sands.
