Geoscience BC is a non-profit organization that receives funding from the provincial government. Our mandate is to attract mineral and oil & gas investment to British Columbia through generating, interpreting and publicly distributing geoscience data in collaboration with First Nations, communities, governments and industry.
Geoscience BC receives financial support from the province of British Columbia for our research activities. Since our inception in 2005, the Province has provided $61.7 million in funding to Geoscience BC for earth science research. Geoscience BC is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Technical direction of the organization is provided by volunteer Technical Advisory Committees (mineral exploration, oil & gas and geothermal) whose membership is largely from the exploration industry.
Many of our projects are identified through a process of requests for proposals (RFPs). We have two main RFPs: open requests for applied or innovative geoscience projects that will attract investment to BC; and targeted requests that are more directed proposals to undertake specific work, or calls for bids on specific surveys, in order to achieve program objectives. In all cases, Geoscience BC seeks collaborative and partnership projects that come with supportive funding. To date, projects funded include newly collected geoscience data, new ideas and new technologies, compilations and reprocessing of existing data, and applications of existing technologies in new areas.
As a non-government, non-profit organization, Geoscience BC is able to be flexible, responsive and entrepreneurial, and operate with relatively low overheads. It also has a unique ability to engage with communities and other non-government organizations in design and delivery of geoscience programs, and to provide information and knowledge to the public about geoscience and the exploration sector.
Geoscience BC works in collaboration with First Nations, communities, governments and industry to identify and fund applied geoscience projects to fulfill our mandate.

ABOUT US > Overview
Building Your Gateway to the North
We call ourselves “Your Gateway to the North” because that very statement defines the foundation that Grimshaw Trucking was built on.
From our modest beginnings in 1948, we have delivered on our commitment of providing reliable transportation services to northern communities and businesses in Western Canada.
Grimshaw Trucking provided transportation services in the early days to the north when you had to forge creeks on log bridges that were chopped and engineered from the sides of the road. There were large tracks of these roads that were still muskeg and the only way through was a tow from a Bombardier or a Bulldozer if they were available.
In the early 1950’s, Grimshaw Trucking mainly serviced the area north of Grimshaw, Alberta hauling product from the rail head and returning with fish and other local products.
The late 1950’s and early 1960’s saw an increase in demand for reliable transportation service into the north and Grimshaw expanded to new communities. We began service to Grande Prairie, Calgary, Slave Lake and High Prairie through our purchase of numerous local transportation companies. A big milestone came in the winter of 1967 when Grimshaw played an instrumental role in building a road into Waterways, Alberta, now known as Fort McMurray. The importance of opening up this corner of Alberta as well as the economic benefits it has provided not only for Alberta, but for the rest of Canada, can not be overstated.
The next ten years saw Grimshaw Trucking expand into Edson, Valleyview, Fox Creek, Hinton and various other northern communities through acquisition of small competitors.
In 1995 Grimshaw Trucking was purchased by the current owners, Mullen Group Ltd. from Northern Transportation Co. Ltd. Mullen’s core values and commitment to quality have contributed to our continued growth and focus on striving for excellence.
Canada’s northern frontier is vast. It is characterized by its harsh climate and many of the communities by today’s standards are still remote and isolated making the delivery of goods to these locations difficult. The geographic area Grimshaw Trucking services is also rich in natural resources and a key factor in the successful exploration and development of these resources is dependable transportation.
Grimshaw Trucking is proud to provide an essential service that has contributed to the prosperity and development of the north for the past 64 years. We have been recognized for our innovation, dependability and superior customer service making us a leader in the transportation Industry.
We will continue to take pride in our people, safety standards, commitment to reducing our impact on the environment and providing excellent service to the more than 300 communities we service …
… Because we live here!
